1000 Ocean Startups
1000 Ocean Startups (1000OS) is a global coalition hosted by the World Economic Forum dedicated to scaling 1,000 startups that deliver critical innovations for ocean health. To achieve this, the coalition strengthens coordination among its members, advances impact measurement tools, and attracts new stakeholders to enable more strategic and regenerative investment.

The Challenge
As the coalition grew, a common challenge emerged: how to generate and demonstrate collective impact across a diverse ecosystem. Some members operated with advanced measurement frameworks, while others were just beginning.
Fragmented approaches limited collaboration, data sharing, and clear communication of progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals. 1000OS needed a shared space for coordination and technical leadership to align members around common measurement, learning, and collective action.
The Solution
-
Coordinated working groups to align priorities and enable collective action.
-
Developed the Nexus outreach to attract new financial and strategic actors to the ecosystem.
-
Supported the adoption of the Ocean Impact Navigator (OIN) as a shared framework for impact measurement and communication.
-
Consolidated working groups as spaces for exchange and the generation of synergies.
-
Strengthened a common, coherent narrative around regenerative impact.
-
Established the Latin America Innovation Hub.

Outcome
This project shows how clear methods and structured collaboration can make a global vision tangible and shared in practice. For Actual, supporting 1000OS means helping strengthen a movement that not only protects the ocean, but actively regenerates it through collective action and distributed leadership.
